Industry focus « Energy » – Tier 2

Review de Legal 500 : BCTG Avocats has established itself as one of the few firms to turn to for high-stakes regulatory and permit authorisations relating to renewables projects in France. The firm acts in a high number of disputes in that area, including most of France’s landmark offshore wind projects in which the practice secured excellent results. The practice assists a large and prominent client base, notably wind and solar energy players. Lately, the team assisted clients with the development of new clean energy projects, such as self-consumption, hydrogen and ‘agrivoltaic’ projects (which combined a solar operation and agricultural activities). Corporate PPAs, and contract and corporate matters are other areas of strength. Star partner Paul Elfassi and the excellent Catherine Dupuy-Burin des Roziers and Diane Mouratoglou are the heads of the practice. M&A partner Alain de Rougé and public law counsel Nelsie Bergès are also noted.

  • Intellectual Property « Trade marks and design » – Tier 2

Review de Legal 500 : BCTG Avocats covers all areas of IP law, particularly in relation to trade marks and designs. The team provides strategic advice and handles litigation for French and international clients, such as those active in the retail, sports, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics and software industries. It also is active handling unfair competition matters, parasitism and ambush marketing issues. The head of the IP department is Gaëlle Bloret-Pucci, who is an expert in both advisory and contentious IP matters, with a particular focus on trade marks and designs, brand protection, marketing, and parasitism. Consumer law and competition law specialist François Dauba was promoted to partner in January 2021. He frequently represents major players in the health and food sectors.

Review de Legal 500 : Acting for major international groups in segments such as fashion, sports, retail, pharmaceutics and advertising, BCTG Avocats advises clients on various aspects of IP law, particularly copyright protection on the Internet and social media platforms. The practice is well known for its litigation capabilities and benefits from its ability to leverage the firm’s international network of partner firms when acting on cross-border mandates. In addition to her expertise in IP and new technologies, practice head Gaëlle Bloret-Pucci is also known for her in-depth knowledge of music law, regularly representing the rights holders of major composers.

Review de Legal 500 : BCTG Avocats is best known for its knowledge of competition law, commercial contract and distribution law practice, with particular expertise in online platforms. Gaëlle Bloret-Pucci is a strong litigator and has in-depth knowledge of procedures specific to intellectual property. The team is led by Hugues Villey-Desmeserets and François Dauba who both specialise in commercial policy, the drafting and negotiation of commercial contracts, and competition and regulatory matters.

The practice handles a high volume of work in that area and is involved in many of France’s landmark offshore projects, including disputes. The practice also provides regulatory expertise, foremost in the energy sector, but also in other sectors such as the telecoms and healthcare sectors. Public contract work is also handled. The practice primarily acts for private sector companies. Practice head Paul Elfassi and counsel Nelsie Bergès are the key contacts.
