Paris, January 18 2024. BCTG Avocats advised start-up BATTRI in its fund-raising to set up its first pre-treatment plant for used batteries.

Battri is one of the major emerging players in the lithium-ion battery recycling market, which has become a major environmental, economic and national sovereignty issue. Thanks to a €10 million round of financing from Managem and Whi-testone, among others, the start-up will be able to set up its first plant in the Hauts-de-France region. The plant will be dedicated to the pre-treatment of used lithium-ion batteries, enabling the black mass to be extracted and then partly processed by Managem, the Moroccan mining group and investor. The plant aims to have a processing capacity of 15,000 tonnes in the first year, rising to 30,000 tonnes over time.

BCTG Avocats assisted BATTRI in negotiating this first round of financing, demonstrating its commitment to young companies involved in green industry sectors. The team supporting the start-up included partner Cyprien Dufournier, associate Constance Biehler in the M&A – Private Equity department and partner Diane Mouratoglou in the Energy department. The commercial aspects of the operation were handled by Catherine Dupuy and Thibaut Magermann.

Battri was also accompanied by Benoit Mercier (Vulcain bank).

The Allen & Overy team advising Managem included Romy Richter, partner, and Claudia di Paolo (Paris office), Ralph Salameh, counsel, and Guillaume Chenu (Casa-blanca office).

The Jones Day team advising Whitestone comprised Matthieu Duplat, partner, and Alicia Ghislain (Brussels office).
