With the addition of Caroline Goupil as a partner on 8 November 2021, BCTG Avocats has strengthened its genuinely cross-disciplinary IT / Data practice, with a view to create innovative synergies between the firm’s various departments.

Caroline assists French and international companies and public institutions with the full range of issues involving new technologies and data protection, and both provides advisory services and handles litigation on their behalf (assistance in setting up and executing IT and digital projects, ensuring and maintaining regulatory compliance, performance difficulties and contractual disputes, litigation involving regulatory authorities, and providing advice on legal issues arising in connection with the use of data and the digitisation of activities). She joins BCTG Avocats together with Manon Zaoui, an associate.

With over 10 years of experience in new technologies and data protection law, Caroline practices in very dynamic sectors, such as technology / industry / retail-luxury. During her past work with the Alain Bensoussan and DLA Piper firms, she acquired recognised expertise in these fields and cultivated a pragmatic approach that addresses all aspects of projects from a business-oriented viewpoint.

By joining BCTG Avocats, Caroline aims developping the IT / Data practice and strengthening the synergies between the firm’s various departments, leveraging the cross-disciplinary nature of her own practice. Her arrival at the head of the IT / Data department is further proof of BCTG Avocats’ commitment to offer cutting-edge global support to a broad range of clients by adding a recognised expert in the legal issues in connection with digital technology, an aspect that now permeates all areas of economic life and business law.  “Bringing the IT / Data practice to a full-service firm such as BCTG Avocats, which has a strong international presence, creates an unprecedented opportunity to provide companies a competitive alternative to English or American firms that is particularly responsive and offers a high level of expertise.  Our goal is to establish a deep and lasting cooperation among the partners that enables us to offer our clients top-notch global support”, stated Caroline.  Her arrival is also consistent with the firm’s aim to develop its “Digital HR” offering, which is spearheaded by Sabine de Paillerets, the partner who heads the employment law practice. “I am also delighted to be joining a firm with a very strong common purpose, which teams are driven by values, such as boldness, performance, teamwork and an entrepreneurial spirit, that are entirely in line with our clients.”

Sabine de Paillerets added: “The addition of Caroline to head our firm’s IT / Data practice complements the many actions the various partners have carried out over the last few years to assist our clients in engineering their digital transformation and to provide them with concrete answers to the numerous issues raised by the transition from their traditional model to a digital economy model, in particular aspects such as digital platforms, the IoT, artificial intelligence and blockchains. The diversity and highly strategic nature of these issues for the development of companies require long-term support from a team of experts who possess an in-depth understanding of the specificities of each type of company and each business sector. We were won over by Caroline’s personality and approach, which combines expertise and pragmatism, and we are persuaded that her ability to immediately grasp the legal, economic and technological aspects of cases will be a valuable asset for our clients.”
